Why we built this

For years the hosting market was stuck. cPanel dominated everything despite being slow, cluttered, and built on assumptions from the early 2000s. Shared hosting was cheap but unreliable. VPS was powerful but too much to manage.

We discovered OpenPanel and saw something different: a panel built for isolation, for containers, for the modern web. We paired it with Google Cloud in Frankfurt and New York, designed pricing that starts free and scales honestly, and built Hostnodes around it.

1. Who we are

Hostnodes Ltd operates the Hostnodes web hosting service. We are committed to protecting your personal data under the GDPR and UK GDPR. Our data centres are in Frankfurt, Germany and New York, USA.

2. What data we collect

We collect account information (name, email, hashed password); billing data processed via Stripe; usage data (server logs, IPs, browser type); support communications; and session cookies plus optional analytics cookies.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to provide the service, process payments, send transactional emails, respond to support, detect fraud, comply with legal obligations, and improve the platform. We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

4. Legal basis

Our GDPR legal bases are: Contract (providing the service); Legitimate interests (security and fraud prevention); Legal obligation (record-keeping); and Consent (optional analytics cookies, withdrawable at any time).

5. Data storage and transfers

Hosting data is stored in the region you select. Frankfurt data stays within the EU/EEA. New York transfers are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).

6. Data retention

Account data is kept while active. Billing records are retained 7 years for tax compliance. Server logs are deleted after 90 days.

7. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, and port your personal data. Contact privacy@hostnodes.com. We respond within 30 days.

8. Cookies

Strictly necessary authentication cookies cannot be disabled. Optional first-party analytics cookies can be turned off in account settings. No third-party advertising or tracking cookies are used.

9. Security

We use TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest, container isolation, vulnerability scanning, and role-based staff access controls.

10. Changes

We will email you at least 14 days before material changes take effect.

Terms of service

1. Agreement

By creating an account or using our services you agree to these Terms. If acting on behalf of an organisation you represent you have authority to bind it.

2. The service

Hostnodes provides web hosting, domain management, email hosting, SSL, database management, and associated tools via OpenPanel on Google Cloud infrastructure.

3. Accounts

You must provide accurate information when registering. You are responsible for all activity under your account. You must be at least 18 years old. Report suspected unauthorised access to security@hostnodes.com immediately.

4. Acceptable use

You may not use the service to host malware, send spam, host CSAM, infringe intellectual property, mine cryptocurrency without consent, launch attacks, or engage in illegal activity. Violations may result in immediate termination.

5. Billing and payment

Paid plans are billed in advance via Stripe. Failed payments are retried after 3 days; accounts may be suspended after 7 days. Cancellations take effect at end of billing period. No refunds for partial periods except where required by law.

6. Free plan

The Free plan is provided as-is with no SLA. We may modify its features or limits with 30 days notice. We will never delete Free plan data without 14 days prior email notice.

7. Uptime and service levels

We target 99.9% monthly uptime for paid plans, excluding scheduled maintenance, force majeure, and third-party issues. Free plan users are not eligible for credits.

8. Your content

You retain full ownership of all content you host. You grant us a limited licence to store, process, and transmit your content solely to provide the service.

9. Backups

Automated backups are provided as a convenience. They are not a substitute for your own disaster recovery plan. We are not liable for data loss from failed or missing backups.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hostnodes is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Total liability shall not exceed fees paid in the three months preceding the claim.

11. Termination

You may terminate from account settings. We may terminate immediately for breach or fraud. Data is retained 30 days after termination for export, then permanently deleted.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to mandatory consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction.

13. Changes

We will email you at least 14 days before material changes take effect.
